NAFDAC destroys unwholesome products worth over N515m in Gombe

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed various categories of regulated products worth N515,732,587 million in Gombe.

Speaking at the venue of the exercise on Saturday in Gombe ,Professor Christianah Adeyeye Director General (DG) NAFDAC said the items were from the six states in the North East sub region.

She said the products being destroyed were made up of substandard, fake and falsely labelled unwholesome food products and chemical.

The News Agency reported that the product destroyed included Antibiotics,Anti Hypertensive, Anti Diabetic and Anti Malaria.

Others were Spaghetti ,Vegetable oil Non alcoholic Beverages,Body cream ,Fake insecticide and fertilizers among other things.

The DG who was represented by Mrs Josephine Dalym Bauchi state NAFDAC coordinator said ,the destruction of the products would no doubt eliminate the risk of their reintroduction into Nigerian markets.

He assured that, their collaboration with other regulatory agencies and other stakeholders would be sustained to keep them updated with the current regulatory requirements.

She further drew the attention of the public to the presence of counterfeited COVID-19 vaccine in the continent .

She appealed to the general public to cooperate with NAFDAC in its effort to eradicate the menace of drugs and substance abuse.

Earlier,Mr Gonzuk Bedima Gombe State coordinator NAFDAC In his welcome address said there was synergy between NAFDAC and other regulatory agencies in the state.

He further called for continued support which he said would go along way in helping them to regulate the circulation of unwholesome product in the market.

“Let’s join our hands together to save lives, have a zero tolerance of unwholesome, fake and counterfeited products.”(NAN)
