Kano Govt. Reiterates commitment to fight against Malaria through continuous capacity building of healthcare workers

Kano State Government has reiterated commitment to the fight against malaria through continuous capacity building of healthcare workers, among others.

The statement was made by the state Commissioner of Health. Dr. Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa, during a scientific meeting held with healthcare workers and June Pharmaceutical Company.

According to Hadiza M. Namadi, Information Officer Kano state Ministry of Health Dr. Tsanyawa disclosed that the state government has also procured Rapid Diagnostic Testing Kits for Malaria and other essential drugs like ACT which are being distributed to both primary and secondary health facilities for the benefit of patients suspected or confirmed to be having Malaria.

He added that the government has invested a lot of resources during Long lasting insecticidal treated net ( LLI) campaigns so as to ensure that every individual in the state benefit, including vulnerable groups such as pregnant women and under five years children.

Dr. Tsanyawa also appreciated June pharmaceutical Company for being a good partner in providing support to the state in the fight against malaria.

He disclosed that a lot of resources have been invested in the Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention ( SMC) program that is currently ongoing in the state in partnership with Malaria Consortium.

In his remarks, the Managing Director/CEO of June Pharmaceutical Company, Mr. BabaTunde Aderele, stated that the company and it’s principal- ShinPoong Pharmaceuticals, South Korea, is happy to partner with the state Ministry of Health as he acknowledged the significant advances the state is making towards elimination of Malaria

One of the facilitators, a community physician and field epidemiologist from B.U.K / AKTH Dr. Amina Abdullahi Umar made a pictorial presentation at the meeting titled, Overview of Epidemiology of Malaria, Burden and Management.
