The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Ogun State has called on students to shun any planned protest on June 12.

Mr Damilola Simeon, Chairman NANS Ogun State Chapter, made the call while addressing newsmen on Friday in Abeokuta.

”We want to state that we will not be part of any protest by anybody or group of individuals to disrupt the relative peace Nigerians are enjoying, neither would we join any protest which aim is to cause the disintegration of Nigeria.

“The glory of June 12 must not be rubbished by those inviting anarchy through the planned protest.

“MKO Abiola is our true son in Ogun State and we should not allow selfish individual or group of individuals to destroy his legacies all in the name of a protest,” he said.

He opined that June 12 is worth celebrating regardless of current challenges, saying that it was important to appreciate God for keeping Nigeria together .

According to him, “it was important to appreciate the efforts of the founding fathers of Nigeria’s democracy, especially late MKO Abiola, the father of Nigeria’s modern democracy, who fought and laid down his life for Nigerians to have the democracy.”

Simeon called on Nigerians to support and cooperate with security personnel in the fight against insecurity.

He appealed to those attacking police formations in the country to put an end to the act and embrace peace.

The chairman urged Nigerian students and the youths to be more patriotic and prayerful for the country to achieve her core objectives.

“We need to be resolute and committed to the country’s national values,” he said. (NAN)
