Female with Disabilities, students and young girls cries lack of sanitary pad in Kano

With the on going ceremony of commemorating world Mestrual Hygiene Day in Kano state, some Girls child under the age of 20 seek for support with sanitary pad in several Communities in Kano state.

The called was made during a sensitization training for 1000 girls in the State in 10 Communities including school of special education at Tudun Maliki in the State.

During an interview at the programme organized by Community Health Research Initiative CHR, 1000 girls were supported with sanitary pad.

However, zainab Ali a student with disability disclosed that, they lack the access of having sanitary pads every month from parents or Guidances, atimes when going back home from school we got stained.People try to communicate with us but end up sometimes harrashing us.

Some at Marmara town

A Beneficiary from Marmara town at Kano Municipal local Government Area said “We used waste rag as an easy format to make ourselves more comfortable during monthly period, even though we often got stained and smelling that make us isolated ourselve from school and public.

Some at Tokarawa town

Furthermore, Rukkaya Gwadabe at Jaoji town in Tarauni Local Government Area uttered that,some of our parents are shy to discuss issue that relate to mestrual Hygiene and they can’t even afford it for us,in some aspect our boyfriend afford it for us either free or we do trade by barta.

A participant at Gama , Nassarawa local Government ,under the Age of 15 narrated that all her friends got their sanitary pads from there boyfriend,and their parents never asked them how they afford it.

In her part, Ubaida Shuaibu at unguwa uku stated that ,Doctor advice her not to be using dirty rag while she was on her monthly period ,but I can’t afford to buy pad or useable ones ,I have to take my sister hair scarf to sustain myself and we have alot of girls that undergo such problems in my Communities.

The founder of Girl Child Initiative and Community Engagement Miss zainab Nasser Ahmad said, I have been receiving calls and complaint from several girls around the state whereby the issue of lack of sanitary pad has been in the society without any support or Awareness,even in some Government schools they lack access to it.

Miss zainab added that, their is needs for the government to End tax on sanitary pad in the country,and state Government to support the girls child with sanitary pads in our schools ,this will give them a conducive and comfortable environment to learn.

Community Health Research Initiative supportive Communities for the sanitary pad disbursement are Sauna, Tarauni,Unguwa uku,Sharada, Jaoji, Marmara ,Dan agudi, Gama, Tokarawa and Tudun Maliki special Education School.
