Sokoto state government in join efforts with the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) Sokoto has commenced the payment of compensation to all Project Affected Persons for the Mabera Storm Water Management Works today.
The exercise was being conducted in the Conference room of the Project.
Project Coordinator Alhaji Ibrahim Umar stated this while speaking to journalists on the commencement of the exercise.
He said, already a company awarded to a contract COBERG-UDOC COVERG LIMITED has mobilized to the site for full commencement of the Works.
Alhaji Ibrahim Umar explained that, over Five hundred million naira have been set aside by the State government for the payment of the compensation.
According to him, although, the Works was in collaboration between Sokoto State government and World Bank, but payment of the compensation will be shouldered by the State government.
He clarified that, over Five hundred structures have been identified and verified by the Project for the payment of the compensation.
The Project Coordinator opined that, this was part of the practical steps taking by the current administration of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal (Mutawallen Sokoto) in fulfililment of his campaign promises as well as ensuring well being and livelihoods activities of the people of the state.
He called on people in the State particularly Project affected Persons (PAPs) to always support government programs and policies in order to ensure rapid development of the State.
Some of the beneficiaries interviewed expressed gratitude to the State government for the gesture and assured of all necessary support to government programmes and policies in order to achieve the desired results.
