Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle and his counterpart Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Zamfara and Sokoto States have jointly pledged more support for the Sahel Sanity Operations to continue ongoing fights against banditry, kidnapping and cattle rustling in the zone.
The duo made the pledge (Today,Tuesday) during an assessment visit to the Sahel Sanity Operations base Super Camp 4 Faskari under Katsina State yesterday, with a view to ensure total stoppage of all criminal activities that bedeviled the north west zone.
Briefing Journalists on his impression upon the recorded successes by the troops across the zone, Governor Matawalle, said politicians were to blame on issues surrounding security challenges which they use as alternative to achieve political gains.
“In fact, we, the politicians, are to be blamed for the intractable security challenges bedevilling our communities. It is evident that some politicians exploit insecurity for political gains. These unscrupulous politicians would hardly commend the military for their successes at the battlefronts.
“However, they would be eager to rush to the media to report attacks by bandits or other miscreants. For these crop of politicians, politics is not about genuine commitment to the wellbeing of the people, it is all about power and nothing more.
“I therefore, urge the security agencies to deal decisively with anyone found politicizing security no matter how highly placed he is. It is by so doing that we can significantly address the current security challenge confronting not just the North-West, but the entire federation”, Matawalle insisted.
Also speaking, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal urged local communities to continue to cooperate by giving credible information as they knew the faces of bandits, their hideouts and their informants, “Let’s expose them for total restoration of peace and tranquility once and for all.
Waziri, who expressed satisfaction with the level of successes recorded by the Nigerian Army in the zone, assured continue giving all the needed support to finish the lingering banditry, kidnapping and cattle rustling. “And for the media, we solicit for your unreserved support so as to help achieve our targeted goals”.
“The issue of security should not be politicised, the security personnel been deployed by various security agencies were everywhere for the safety of innocent citizens, be it in bushes and cities, there were currently hitch-free movements at any given hour especially on our major roads across the zone”, Tambuwal has assured.
