The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji Sabo Nanono on Tuesday inaugurated two mini water treatment plants in Wangara village and Wudil town in Gezawa and Wudil Local Government Areas of Kano State.
The projects were executed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) under its rural development programme.
Speaking at Wangara shortly after inaugurating and handing over the project to the community, Nanono said the Ministry facilitated the two projects so as to supply the communities with clean and potable water for their domestic use.
Nanono, who was represented by a Zonal Director (North west), Engr. Mathew Alabi, said the decision to execute the projects was also aimed at ensuring regular water supply to the communities to alleviate their sufferings in getting potable water.
According to him, the facilities would provide safe drinking water to the benefiting communities to guarantee them good health and concentration to produce crops and animals for domestic and international markets,
He urged the communities to work in collaboration with the state, local governments as well as the traditional rulers from the areas to ensure security and regular maintenance of the facilities to last long,
He disclosed that the Ministry had in the recent past initiated and completed many other projects in Kano state including 20 solar powered boreholes, three mini water treatment plants and 9.5 kilometre asphalt road.
Others are 242 solar street lights and 3.5 kilometre concrete base road while work was ongoing on provision and installations of over 200 solar street lights at Rimingado, Tofa, Dawakin Tofa, Tsangaya and Kunchi LGAs, among others.
In his remarks, the Deputy Governor of Kano state who doubles as Commissioner of Agriculture, Dr Nasiru Gawuna commended the Federal Government for providing the facilities.Gawuna, who was represented by a director in the ministry, Alhaji Shehu Garko, called on communities to protect the facilities from vandals.
Each of the two semi water treatment plants has the capacity to produce 75, 000 litres of water per day.(END).
