KEDCO donate palliatives to Kano

The Kano Electricity Distribution Company, KEDCO, has donated 1,500, bags of rice, 1,500 jerry cans of cooking oil and N2 million to the Kano state government as part of its contribution to the effort of the state government to cushion the effect of measures taken in the fight against COVID-19.

Delivering the items to governor Abdullahi Ganduje on Thursday, the Managing Director of KEDCO Jamilu Gwamna praised the Kano state government on its efforts in the fight against the pandemic which he says KEDCO has to identify with by donating to the course.

“We are here to present to you our little contribution, I have here with me 1,500 20kg bags of rice, 1,500 25 Lt cans of cooking oil and we also have a cheque of N2 million.

“Actually this is nothing to show especially with the enormous resources required in the fight against this pandemic. But however this will go a long way. This is a part of our corporate social responsibility and a way to show our support to the government.

Gwamna also said that in order to ease the effects of stay at home order on residents, KEDCO has increased the hours of minimum electricity supply by two hours.

“Also on our own part what we have done is to ensure that because of the lockdown we have improved our electricity supply especially to the residential areas from a minimum of 16 to 18 hours in some of the areas. This is part of what we have done” he stated.

Receiving the donations, governor Abdullahi Ganduje commended KEDCO and promised that the distribution will will reach those it is meant for.

We assure you we have a well structured method of distribution headed by the Vice Chancellor of Bayero University Kano as the Chairman, and also at the local level, we have the district heads, the village heads and the ward heads and the Imams are all involved in the identification and distribution of items to the poorest of the poor. We have 484 wards in Kano state and in all of them poorest of the poor have been fished out. We have 11,000 polling units and on each polling units, four households were picked as beneficiaries. So you can see that the distribution is very wide.

There is no political consideration on it, no party affiliations in order to benefit from this gesture.
